The Temple at Kom Ombo
The Temple at Kom Ombo
TEMPLE OF SEBEK & HAROERIS, KOM OMBO - The impressive remains of this temple are on the banks of the Nile and provide a spectacular view when approached from the river. Only part of the Hypostyle Hall remains intact, the rest is partial ruin or has been repositioned, none-the-less the site still retains some its former grandeur.
This temple is unusual in that it is a double temple dedicated to two gods. The right-hand temple is dedicated to the crocodile headed god, Sebek or Sobek, while the left-hand temple is dedicated to Haroeris or Horus the Elder, the falcon headed sky god. This temple was rebuilt in the Ptolemaic period by adapting a temple built around the time of Tutmose III.
